Engineering

Two core technologies define V-Track performance: the V-Screen Retention System and RAD — Roller Anti-Deflection. Together they deliver mechanical fabric retention across spans up to 99 feet.

Core Technology 1

V-Screen Retention System™

The patented mechanism that locks screen fabric into the track at every point along the channel — not at discrete clips or snaps, but continuously, from housing to sill.

V-Screen Retention System

A continuous thermoplastic bead — the keder — is welded to the edge of the screen fabric during manufacturing. This bead slides into extruded aluminum V-Track channels that run the full height of the opening.

Once inserted, the keder locks mechanically into the channel profile. The fabric cannot separate from the track without reversing the insertion path. There are no clips to fatigue, no snaps to pop, and no tension that can be overcome by wind.

Continuous Mechanical Bond

Conventional motorized screens use discrete attachment points — clips, zippers, or cable guides spaced along the fabric edge. Wind load concentrates at these points, and once one fails, adjacent points carry increasing load until the edge separates.

The V-Screen Retention System distributes load across the entire channel length. Wind pushes the keder bead deeper into the channel rather than pulling it out. The harder the wind blows, the tighter the mechanical bond becomes.

Kontour Guide

The patent-pending Kontour Guide is an upper capture geometry that directs the keder bead from the roller housing into the vertical V-Track channel on every deployment cycle. It ensures the bead enters the channel cleanly — maintaining continuous edge retention from top to bottom without manual adjustment.

Spring-Loaded Track Engagement

At the bottom of the system, dual spring-loaded wheels in the weight bar engage the V-Track channel — locking the screen in place while allowing smooth, guided movement during deployment and retraction. This creates a sealed perimeter that eliminates edge gaps where insects or wind could enter.

Tested Under Extreme Conditions

The V-Screen Retention System has been internally tested to sustained winds exceeding 100 mph. Load distributes across the full channel length rather than concentrating at individual attachment points.

Core Technology 2

RAD — Roller Anti-Deflection

Large motorized screens require long roller tubes. Without internal reinforcement, these tubes deflect under the weight of the fabric — causing the screen to sag at center span, track unevenly, and eventually bind in the channels. RAD solves this.

What RAD Does

RAD — Roller Anti-Deflection — is an internal reinforcement system built into the V-Track roller tube. It prevents the tube from bowing under the combined weight of the motor, fabric, and its own span length.

Without RAD, roller tubes on wide openings deflect at center span. This deflection causes the fabric to roll unevenly, the keder bead to misalign with the channel entry, and the screen to bind or jam during deployment.

99-Foot Single Spans

RAD is the enabling technology behind V-Track's industry-leading span capability. With internal tube reinforcement maintaining structural integrity across the full width, a single V-Track screen can span openings up to 99 feet — without center posts, mid-span supports, or split-panel compromises.

This means cleaner sightlines, fewer structural modifications to the building, and a single screen where competitors require two or three panels with visible mullions between them.

Precision Fabric Tracking

A straight roller tube means the fabric wraps and unwraps evenly across its full width. The keder bead enters both vertical channels simultaneously and at the correct angle — maintaining the continuous mechanical bond that defines V-Track performance.

RAD ensures that the retention system works as designed on every deployment cycle, whether the screen is 8 feet wide or 99 feet wide.
